Italian lunch in Helsinki crafted from scratch every day

Finding a genuinely good Italian lunch in Helsinki is harder than it should be. Too many places serve reheated pasta, predictable menus, and wine lists that feel like an afterthought.

We do things differently. At Retro Enoteca in Kaisaniemi, every lunch is built from scratch — with real Italian craft, a thoughtfully chosen wine list, and a room that actually feels like somewhere worth sitting.

Fresh pasta and classic Italian dishes — made daily

Our kitchen does not cut corners. Every pasta on the menu is made fresh, every day, by our head chef Jesse Vottonen — a creative force previously known from Ravintola Passio.

What that means for you at lunch:

  • Pasta with genuine texture and flavour, not dried or pre-cooked
  • Classic Italian dishes like Cacio e Pepe, executed with care and precision
  • Modernised versions of traditional recipes that stay true to their roots
  • A menu that reflects real Italian food culture, not a tourist-friendly approximation

This is Italian food Helsinki rarely gets to experience on a weekday afternoon.

A lunch spot shaped by Italian food culture

Retro Enoteca was founded in September 2024 out of genuine love for Italian culinary tradition. That passion shows in every detail — from the food to the room itself.

Our interiors were designed over a long period of deliberate searching. The vintage hooks, retro refrigerators from the 1950s and 60s, and enamel signs were sourced directly from Italian antique markets. The result is a warm, personal atmosphere that feels nothing like a chain restaurant.

With fewer than 50 seats, every lunch here feels intimate. You are not eating in a canteen — you are sitting in a room that was built to make you feel welcome.

Italian wines you won’t find anywhere else in Helsinki

Most restaurant wine lists in Helsinki draw from the same limited pool of importers. Ours does not.

We import our wines directly, which means our list includes small-producer Italian wines you simply cannot find elsewhere in the city. Our wine concept was created by Jussi Hukkanen, and every bottle is chosen to complement the food on the plate.

  • Carefully selected wines from small Italian producers
  • Bottles chosen specifically to pair with our menu
  • Exclusive imports you will not find in other Helsinki restaurants

Whether you want a glass with lunch or a longer wine evening with friends, the list is built for both.
